Serves as the technical expert on complex applications, development work assignments and problems. This position serves as a staff specialist on one or more systems and is normally responsible for the entire life cycle of an application to include analysis, coding, testing, and documentation. The Senior Application Developer applies significant professional experience and training in information technology and computer programming to the analysis, design, modification, and maintenance of application programs, integrated systems, and/or software solutions.


  1. Develop programming code and software modifications using appropriate languages and tools to provide responsive and innovative solutions, and new functionality in company-wide and/or complex specialized systems.
  2. Research, design, and develop prototypes using company-specific selected products and technologies to demonstrate utility, productivity enhancements, and cost savings.
  3. Write documentation to provide user support for programs and for production/operating procedures.
  4. Develop, maintain and support associated databases.
  5. Analyze user system and application needs, determine and evaluate potential solutions, develop system specifications and requirements, and design application programs to meet the requirements.
  6. Design integrated solutions which may include applications, databases, networks, and related systems.
  7. Research, analyze and evaluate current technical trends, emerging technologies and standards, new software functionality, and alternative software solutions to determine applicability and viability at company.
  8. Structure, implement, and maintain database systems. Establish policies, standards and procedures to ensure useful and readily accessible data.
  9. Design database systems and programs.
  10. Analyze data requirements, develop and document data dictionary, and develop data models.
  11. Provide end user training, as needed.
  12. Attend conferences, webinars and training sessions to maintain the knowledge and skills necessary for fulfilling the position requirements.


Educational and experience requirements include: a Bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field, with six (6) years of experience in related positions; or a Master's degree in directly related fields with four years of experience. Appropriate college coursework, technical training, or industry certifications may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Industry certification with directly related experience may be substituted for the degree requirements on a year for year basis.
